In particular, Lahey wanted to install precise and reliable Smoke Evacuation and Control Systems throughout their 1.5 million sq. ft suburban campus in Burlington, MA.

Solution Orientation
After evaluating Lahey’s existing system, BCM Controls designed, installed and commissioned a fully scalable and expandable Smoke Evacuation Control System consisting over 2500 points. BCM used existing field wiring and devices whenever possible so that installation costs were significantly reduced. To avoid affecting the quality of patient care, BCM completed live cut-overs and system start-up while Lahey Clinic was fully occupied and operational.

Once the smoke evacuation system was complete and integrated with Lahey’s dedicated Ethernet network, Lahey turned to BCM for assistance with additional projects. In aggregate, BCM has implemented a wide variety of DDC system applications including Operating Rooms, Laboratories, Critical Alarming, Patient Rooms, Chiller Plants, Waste Treatment and Campus Energy Monitoring.

From monitoring controls in Radiation Therapy, CAT Scan, Pain Center and Sleep Lab areas to introducing “smart sensors” with fully programmable set points, BCM understands complex health environments. BCM trains users and fully demonstrates the system at the completion of each project so that Lahey staff members are able to get the most out of their new system.

A Continuing Relationship
Lahey chose BCM to do the Building Automation System for their Southeast Expansion project at the hospital's main campus in Burlington, Mass. This extensive project encompasses approximately 150,000 square feet of additions and renovations, including seven levels of new construction, transformation of existing space, and the creation of a new four-level parking garage.

With a 10-year working relationship, BCM knows and ensures Lahey standards are followed. Lahey Clinic continues to look to BCM for design consistency and is confident in BCM’s ability to provide tomorrow’s solutions for today’s problems.
