BCM Controls kept pace with the changing scopes and drawings during the 18-month bid process for the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center to win the project over intense competition. As the Security Sub-Contractor to Mass Electric Construction Company, BCM handled the complete installation of the integrated CCTV, access controls, and alarm monitoring systems for Boston’s new 2.1 million sq. ft. convention center. Integration was the key element on this high-profile, 18-month project. To the credit of all the crews on site, BCM completed the project on budget and on schedule.

All camera, access control and intercom systems were fully integrated through use of a variety of communication networks – including direct point-to-point, ASCII RS232, Ethernet, and RS485. Events and Alarms are tracked through the Andover Controls Continuum front end that reacts in a programmed manner to deploy messages and camera call-ups to workstations and monitors throughout the building.
The building’s length (¼ mile) presented significant challenges to maximizing efficiency throughout all phases of the project – installation, checkout and systems verification. Intense coordination by project management and on-site personnel with all construction trades allowed BCM to consistently meet all project needs and schedules. Careful engineering of the wire runs ensured proper calibration of the propagation of signal strengths.
The project required comprehensive testing and certification by a third-party commissioning agent. This process included a check of all doors, cameras and devices to ensure that the project criteria were met. BCM Controls utilized its standard commissioning documentation to ensure that all design functionality fully satisfied the project criteria.
BCM is proud to have contributed to the safety and security of New England’s largest building.
